Kyrgyzstan Watershed Project
Workshop, Policy Proposal, and Field Dialogue
A field-tested development proposal presented in Kyrgyzstan, connecting watershed-based systems, finance, and long-term sustainability.
In April 2025, we presented a watershed-based development proposal in Kyrgyzstan and held workshops with students, researchers, and faculty members at two universities.
Overview
This project explores a watershed-based approach to development in Central Asia, with a focus on Kyrgyzstan. It connects environmental systems, biodiversity, regional finance, and long-term social development through the concept of “Path Diversity.”
Workshops in Kyrgyzstan
We conducted workshops at:
- Ala-Too International University — April 1, 2025
- Light Academy College of Engineering — April 3, 2025
The sessions included a presentation of our policy proposal, discussion with local participants, and exchange of ideas on sustainable development, watershed systems, and regional project design.

Key Ideas
- Applying watershed thinking to Central Asia as an interconnected regional system
- Exploring biodiversity credits and environmental finance
- Designing a multi-project portfolio rather than relying on a single development model
- Connecting environmental sustainability, regional cooperation, and economic resilience
- Building long-term development pathways beyond extractive or short-term growth models
Why It Matters
Conventional development models based on high resource consumption, centralized expansion, and short-term extraction are facing clear ecological and social limits. A watershed-based approach offers a different path: one that integrates environment, society, and regional cooperation over the long term.
From Proposal to Practice
This work forms the foundation of our current project on AI-powered cultural and contextual understanding infrastructure for public services.
We are now exploring pilot implementation opportunities, including potential collaboration in Kyrgyzstan.
